Does this food provide solely nourishment, solely enjoyment, or both?
When God created food, He created it for the purposes of nourishment and enjoyment. The field of nutrition explores the way food nourishes us. This field delves into how food can be used to heal ailments, prevent chronic diseases, and maintain our health and well-being. Food can fuel and nourish us through the macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) it contains. For instance, carbohydrates break down into glucose in our digestive system. From here, our bodies use them in various metabolic processes that provide us with ATP, or energy that we use to perform work throughout the day. Thus, the carbohydrates that our food supplies us with nourishes us through being our primary source of energy. As a future Registered Dietitian, I can say that this field is pretty cool. 🙂
